Eurovision 2011 France: Amaury Vassili – Sognu

Sognu di ste labbre
Di sta voce chjara è pura
Mai spentu ricordu di tè
Quella notte cui cun tè

Sognu, mi lamentu
U moi core, ‘n hà primura
Di a vita aspettu dumane
Invinuchjatu, vedi u mare

Spart’u mondu cun tè
Ma tu, ti ne vogli’andà
Canteraghju vittoria
Luntanu da tè, pensu sempre che
sei vicino a me, sognu di tè

Canteraghju, canteraghju a tè
A canzona l’o i mé

Piengu è so male
Pregu u celu fin’a more
Cui dai monti, guidi front’ a tè
Per svegliammi da stu sognu

Sè tu mori, eu dinò

English Translation

Dream

I dream of those lips
The voice, clear and pure
I still think of you
That night, there with you

I’m dreaming, but lamenting
And my heart, indifferent
To the life that awaits me tomorrow
I’m kneeling; I look at the sea

I wanted to see the world with you
But you, you didn’t want to go
Singing of victory
Far from you, I still think that
You’re close to me, I dream of you

I will sing, sing to you
The song of you and me

I cry and I am the worse for it
I will ask the sky until I die
There among the mountains, I will confront you
To awake myself from this dream

If you die, poor me

  1. The Translation and the “original” aren’t correct. Sei intornu a mè, sognu di tè,.. he sings sei vicino a me which means you are close e to me , you are nearby not inside me
Then: guardu u mare he sings vedi u mare
spartu … means I want to go to see the world.. not to share the world
Canteraghju vittoria…doesn’t make sense, but I can’t understand what he sings
Per svegliammi he doesn’t sing these words he sings esceraghju (or written different) which means I get out of this dream
eu dino in my opinion means something different (as well as:… o i me, in italian exists an expression “ahime”, which is an expression of sufferance)

  2. perfect simply perfect.epic song .the most beaytiful song i ever heard. and i am 43.years old .thanks vassili.

  3. This is honestly one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. He has such good presentation and his voice is flawless. I wish I lived in Europe so I could vote! He would have had all of mine!! Go France!! 🙂

  4. I think that this is one of the most beautiful songs
I have ever heard. Comparable in beauty and passion
as “Per te partiro” of Andrea Bocelli. I am not
from Europe but if I could vote in Eurovision I
would have given top score to this one. It had
a stunning background presentation!! Amaury’s voice
is fantastic! Congratulations, Amaury! All the best,
    from Puerto Rico…
Thanks a lot for the translation!

  5. I sing myslelf.
This is one of the very best this year.
Eurovision unfortunately is not about vocal talents 🙁
If so he would have won.
    Such variation and very touching.
It’s like a circus, impress crowds anyway possible and you win. Sometimes I even think it is predetermined.
I am in Moscow and I think our sing even did not decerve such a low this year. But it’s a competition with local voting after all. Nothing can be predicted.
Well I’m sure he’ll have a great carrier.
    Cheers to France ))

  6. excellent song. Ameury’s voice is exceptional. Should have won eurovision but people do not appreciate good music any more. The more you shout and act stupidly on stage the better. Any way Ameury do not be disheartened with eurovision result cos this contest is just a political contest and you deserve better. keep it up. you are now competing with bocelli. I like you voice better.

  7. This Song Is Too Much Good For Eurovision. He Has Nice Voice And I Think That H MUST Be First Or Second! Unforunately People Dont Apreciate Good Singers.

  8. @ Dragonfly – I understand the ” Sè tu mori, eu dino” 5sorry no accent – to mean “If you die, me too”….

  9. Enfin, une belle chanson en langue Corse qui permettra peut-être la France de gagner cette competition. Sa voix est si belle, ça change de tous les idiots qui passent dans cette émission.

  10. Ok I checked the Eurovision site… Still figuring out translation quirks, but here’s a correction:

    Canteraghju, canteraghju a tè, a canzona “l’Oimè”

Translation: I will sing, I will sing to you, the song, the “Oimè” (an operatic piece).

  11. Last post tonight: (sorry!!)

@ Abstract: oh I see now what you’re saying, that he doesn’t even sing the word intorno… He sings vicinu (oops!). Ok, so you’re right, then.

  12. Ohhh I should just make an account here for the sake of editing my posts XD

Come to think of it, I’m not even sure Amaury is singing “di sto sognu”… I hear something like, “di sto so-oo-oo…”, so I’m not positive what that last word is.

I’m also wondering if “eu dinó” is correct.. And if he sings that, is that what it means? Because “eu” means “I”, not “me”, if I’m not mistaken… He doesn’t say “take me”… He is saying, “I will _____”, and that’s where I’m lost >.<

  13. Ok, I listened closely this time…

Where it says “fin’a more”, it could mean “until death”. But I’m wondering if it says “fin’a mare”, “until/to the sea”. That might make more sense…

Also, what I said before: it is definitely not “per svegliammi”… He says either “vinceraghju” (I will win) or “canteraghju” (I sing) “di sto sognu” (of this dream). Not sure how you want to incorporate these sketchy changes, or if you should just wait til someone more fluent in Corsican happens along here 😛

  14. @ Spring: yes, I was thinking that yesterday actually 😛 and wondering what I put here XD

@Abstract: Great, that would be better… I wasn’t sure if “ne” meant “there (a place)” or “no” or something else… And intorno, I thought you had that word in Italian??
I actually study multiple languages, including Italian, Spanish, French and Romanian, so that’s how I got my translation. As I’m only fluent in French, and understand sufficiently but am not fluent in the others, you are probably closer than I am 😉

  15. Hi there, I don’t speak Corsican language, but I speak Italian and they are very similar. I think that “Ma tu ti ne vogli’andà” means “But you wanted to go away”. I think that “Sei intornu a mè, sognu di tè” should be “Sei vicinu a me, sognu di tè” and it means “You’re near me, I dream about you”.

  16. Oh sorry, I forgot to delete the “still” right before “inside me”… There was only the first one, not the second.

  17. You’re welcome, Spring:) … But I’ll update again later–The word “svegliammi” I just realised never appears in the song, and I forget what it is so I will listen again and let you know 😉

  18. Here is what I understood:

    English Translation
    Dream
    I dream of those lips
    The voice, clear and pure
    I still think of you
    That night, there with you
    I’m dreaming, but lamenting
    And my heart, indifferent
To the life that awaits me tomorrow
I’m kneeling; I look to the sea
I shared the world with you
But you, you didn’t want to go
    Singing of victory
Far from you, I still think that
You’re still inside me, I dream of you
I will sing, sing to you
The song of you and me
I cry and I am the worse for it
I will ask the sky until death
There among the mountains, I’ll confront you
To awake myself from this dream
    If you die, take me.

“Sognu”, the title, cam be interpreted as either “Dream” (noun) or “I Dream” (1st person singular conjugation of the verb “to dream”) 🙂

If I’m wrong, please correct me, too!
