Vânia Fernandes – Senhora do Mar ~ English Version

Lady Of The Sea

Crying in the sand
I fall on my weak knees before you
Why did you steal all of the bread in this plate?
Robbing smiles, plucking roses, cruelly
Write my destiny

Crying in the sand
I pray and I raise my hands before you
Why did you call to you what was mine?
All my life is painfully
Fading in your sea

Your sad and cold waves, deepest of all graves,
Have frozen the fire of my days
Let my future sail free
Have you ever cried for me
Lady of the sea?

Why did you steal all of the bread in this plate?
Robbing smiles, plucking roses, cruelly
Write my destiny

Your sad and cold waves, deepest of all graves
Have frozen the fire of my days
You give your salt, you need our plea
You hunt every soul free
Bring him back to me

Your sad and cold waves, deepest of all graves
Have frozen the fire of my days
Let my future sail free
Have you ever cried for me
Lady of the sea?

  1. I’m from Russia. And I think, that this song is beautiful. But my favorite song is ” Oro” by Jelena Tomasevic. Also the nice songs is from Belgium, Malta, Norway, Sweden and Armenia.

  2. I realy like this song.Original portugal version is in my opinion absolutly beautiful…sad, but great…

  6. Today is the big for Portugal!!
    Go Portugal go!!!
we (portuguese people) will be with you!!! 🙂

  7. I watched a program which is divided into four parts yesterday that we have here in Sweden where there are five people who go through all the songs of the eurovision and all these five people give songs points from 0 to 5 , yesterday it was the fourth and last part so they went through the last songs in the second semifinals and the five songs already qualified for the final and they only gave this song 4 points TOTALLY (four of them gave only one point and one gave 0 points):S Those have a very weird music taste sometimes though, for example they gave Croatia very high points and Norway got most points of all songs….so it’s no idea to listen to them anyway, they always give nordic countries high points lol….

  8. Spooky690 and Jonti_swe i’m portuguese and i just loved your commentes to the portuguese song!! really, loved it!! and thenk you for your suport!! i think Portugal this year can go to the final!!! we all beleave that!! Vania has a great voice power and like you said it will be sang in portugues!!! thank tou once again for your suport!!

  9. Hmm yea I suppose it’s traditional and have quite good lyrics. I’m honestly not sure if I like the language so much :S
And I agree about Sweden’s lyrics. Maybe that’s the biggest reason why our song doesn’t make me feel anything really.
Greece could have done better I think too but it’s still an ok song.

  10. My point is Portugal did a good job this year.
    It is singing in portuguese
    It has a good lyric
It is loyal to its traditions
    Vania has a great voice.

In my opinion few songs have this standard this year.
However i enjoy the hungarian, serbian, russian, ukrainian n romanian songs. Almost forgot norway!!!

And some good songs that miss points are: Sweden due the lyric (a bit basic in my opinion) and Greece that has a great song but unfortunately Kalomoira voice is nothing special, doesnt give the intesity that the songs needs.

  11. james- I agree with you. That’s usually the case.
I’m not a very big fan of this song either but it’s not bad either.
I do like the other songs you listed there, Israel, Albania and Serbia are among the best 🙂

  12. english versions are normally rubbish. Nothing like the original version, in this case the portuguese one. It should be compulsory.
My top 4 this year is: Israel, Albania, Portugal and Serbia.

  13. I really prefer the original version, i think i ve been listening for so long that it sounds like perfection. Although this is a good way for english speakers to catch the soul of this song.

  14. In my opinion the english version is even more boring than in the native language. I don’t think that this song will have success in the contest.
