The Armenian delegation will leave for Oslo on May 17 to participate in the international song contest “Eurovision-2010”.
This is a conversation with a reporter Tert.am told Advisor to the Director of the Public Television of Armenia on special projects Diana Mnatsakanyan. According to her, the first rehearsal Eva Rivas, which is already known, will represent Armenia, will be held at 8:00 am on May 18.
Mnatsakayan noted that the show of Armenian singer is fully prepared and knew all the details. However, she has not disclosed these secrets. “First, to reveal these secrets, according to the rules is not permitted, and secondly, if everything is known – the interest is lost”, – she said.
So, without revealing details, Advisor to the Director shared that Eva Rivas will have interesting theatrical show, with a little surprise. “In the show there are elements of focus, we can say that on stage the magic happens” – she explained.
Speaking of costumes, Mnatsakanyan added that in them is there light pastel colors, of course, elements of apricot color. Recall that Eva Rivas with the song Apricot Stone («Apricot”) will perform the second on May 27 in the second semifinal of “Eurovision”.
Advisor to the Director informed the OTA that in the promo-tour Rivas has already visited Russia, Ukraine, Greece, Cyprus, Germany and Belgium.
She added that during his stay in Oslo will be a one-day visit to France, in Lyon, where Rivas will sing at the concert of Arman Hovhannisyan.
“I would like to wish us all the patience and good luck” – finally wished Mnatsakanyan.

The begining of song is promissing, however after sounds like Russian with influence of chastushka…, which makes this song forgetable and loosing any kind of originality.
I would love to that Armenia be first, but we need to remember our old school, our pure ancient Armenian sounds…
or at least refer to Artur Meschian or Elvina Makarian’s “Urek Tghaner”.
Please, if it is not to late, just match the song according how it starts. And keep in the mind our mountains and history covered with stones.

That’s a song which proves that 3-minutes-song can have everything what 4:30-song has. Not just that, it has good rhythm, good melody and one bite of ethno (and it is really hard to be representative of eastern nation, and to be moderate with ethno elements), success should be guaranteed. Also, we have heard songs about apples, lemons, oranges, but apricots give another dose of originality.
When I saw the title for the first time, it looked promising. “Apricot stone” is another formulaic song that works very well. The song is great and I enjoy listening to it, even though I rarely eat apricots. The last verse of the song sounds quite powerful. Armenia aims for another top10 placement and I believe it is an easily achievable result.
This song rocks. It’s a very, very nice mix of ethnic eastern sounds & elements mixed with western contemporary pop so I believe “Apricot Stone” will appeal to viewers from all over the continent. It’s authentic so big thumbs up from me. If Eva can convince vocally in a few weeks this may be a contender for Top 5 (or more).
First off, let me state that I only have a lot of criticism for this song because it’s so good and allows me to be picky. Love the beginning and the new version really transitions well into the chorus. The major issue I have with the song is: the way it’s written puts the syllabic emphasis in the wrong place in a few parts. In particular, instead of “A-pri-cot”, it’s “ap-ri-COT.” Small detail, perhaps, but it totally gets on my nerves!!! It’s because the syllable “cot” lands on the downbeat which is the strongest of any time signature. Oh, well. Still a 5 for me! (And if don’t hear the word Apricot for the next week, I’ll be fine with that! People cut down on that word!)
Armenia is always sending great songs and this year is not an exception for me. One of the best tracks I’ve heard in this edition. I love the way the song combines the traditional elements and the modern sounds from nowadays, it makes it a very original. The song starts like a ballad, the theme of the song is very emotional and appeals a lot to the people that are far from their origins, then it suddenly becomes up-beated, actually this is the part of the song that I love most. The singer is a beautiful women that lives herself the story of the song, so she can transmit very natural the song’s message. I think Armenia is a surely qualifier and it has great chances to do well in the final.
Very nice and refreshing. The whole package is like “suited” for ESC – The song, the voice, Eva’s look, even the lyrics (which are very metaphorical, and i personally consider them being a real piece of art – simple and effective)………All in all, this is what a standard ESC song should be like. Armenia always had good results in this contest, and i believe this year will be no exception. Bravo.
It was the first song I really thought it was gonna win but it lost its magic on me just a little bit. But still is a strong contender.

This is probably one of the most catchy songs this year and I really, really like it. This song clearly proves to me that Western and Eastern musical elements can easily be combined without the song losing any of its cultural recognition. This is truly a great song that could do very well in ESC. In my opinion it fulfills every single criteria of an ESC-winner.
I like how the singer performs the song, it sounds like she actually means what she sings. The song is actually rather good too, it is really catchy and i like the ethnic parts in it. It has find the balance between being ethnic and modern. The thing which bothers me slightly is that in some parts the background music seems to run faster that she sings. Overally a solid song, but lacks that little bit of something special
Tbh I expected something better from Armenia but on the other hand it’s beautiful in its simplicity. Eva performs this song how it’s supposed to be – I mean, you don’t need dancers and impressive show in order to open your soul to everyone. I really like the lyrics and it’s not so simple like previous efforts from Kavaleryan. Maybe she has not so strong vocals but she’s kind and beautiful and this song suits her perfectly. Usually I’m not a fond of patriotic songs but this one grabbed my attention.

Personally, this is not my favourite song of the year, but it has been very popular amongst other Eurofans. This song will probably do very well, and Eva definitely deliver a solid vocal performance.
I think the lyrics in here are a bit messy, the rhymes are forced, you can’t hear the song flow freely. What I like about the entry is the ethnic sounding. Unfortunately for Armenia, it’s present in every of their Eurovision songs, so I don’t find it convincing enough to give it more than a 3.
First of all, I don’t like the way Eva says Apricot, the A to me should be pronounce like in bAt or crAb. Anyway, Eva’s voice is pretty good, it suits the song well. The song is pretty catchy as well, I just don’t find the verse appealing. I love the ethnic instruments as well as the lyrics. I’ve never heard a song about a diaspora.

Armenia hopes to avoid politics at 2010 Eurovision
Armenia’s candidate at the 55th Eurovision contest has no interest in making a political statement against Turkey, according to the singer’s publicist.
“We are not going there to make politics. We are not interested in politics at all. We trust in our candidate. All we want to do is to do the best for our country,” said Hayk Markosyan, who is representing Valeriya Reshetnikova Tsaturian, who uses Eva Rivas as her stage name.
A world citizen, the 22-year-old Rivas was born in Rostov, Russia to an Armenian mother and a half-Russian, half-Greek father. Known as the “Golden Voice of Rostov,” Rivas has won a number of awards for the country’s music industry.
Overcoming tension from last year
During the contest at the end of May in Oslo, Rivas will sing “Apricot Stone,” which recounts the story of a mother telling stories of her imaginary homeland.
The song’s subject matter, however, has upset some in Turkey, who perceived the story of longing as a thinly-disguised reference to the traumatic events of 1915.
“Eva has never visited Armenia, neither has Karen Kavaleryan, the song-writer. ‘Apricot stone’ is a song about reuniting with the roots, with Armenia,” Markosyan recently told the Hürriyet Daily News & Economic Review in discounting the view.
“We are not after making politics in the competition; we are after fair play. We do not have the slightest hint at Turkey in our song,” said Markosyan, who is speaking on behalf of Rivas due to the singer’s tight schedule ahead of the song contest.
Markosyan said he hopes there will be no repeat of the tension that broke out between Azerbaijan and Armenia after last year’s competition in which Azerbaijan closed down the SMS number for Armenia during the voting while prosecutors opened an investigation into those who had voted for Armenia.
Armenia, meanwhile, displayed an image of Nagorno-Karabakh on the screen during the voting.
Touching on these tensions, he said: “Starting with Turkey’s candidate MaNga, I wish good luck to everyone on behalf of my team. Let’s leave politics to politicians and gather in Oslo to do uniformly all the best for our countries. And let the best one win.”
Road to Oslo passes through Greece
Unlike the Inga and Anuş Arşagyan sisters, who represented Armenia in last year’s competition while dressing in traditional clothes for their song “Jan Jan,” Rivas plans to give a dynamic performance in a more modern outfit.
“This song will speak to everyone, regardless of their nationality, that lives far away from the lands they belong to. As it is a modern song, it is also very sentimental,” he also said.
As in past years, Armenia’s entry will be in English because it is the most advantageous for international competition, Markosyan said.
Rivas is now touring Greece and Greek Cyprus, Markosyan said, adding that the two have shown a keen interest in her works, although she is also widely appreciated in Russia and Armenia because of her origins.
“Rivas will not only be supported by Armenia. There is also great support from Russia, Greece, and Greek Cyprus,” he said.

Of course, the Azeri song is good, but the Armenian is no worse and in my opinion it has more chances to win, and the Azerbaijanis and the Turks should not say that the Armenian song is worse only because of hatred towards the Armenian people.
