Eurovision 2010 Armenia: Eva Rivas – Apricot Stone

Many, many years ago,
When I was a little child,
Mama told me you should know,
Our world is cruel and wild,
But to make your way through cold and heat
Love is all that you need

I believed her every word,
More than anything I heard
But I was too scared to lose my fun
I began to cry a lot
And she gave me apricots
Kisses of the earth, fruits of the sun

Apricot stone,
Hidden in my hand
Given back to me
From the motherland
Apricot stone,
I will drop it down
In the frozen ground
I’ll just let it make its round

Apricot stone,
Hidden in my hand
Given back to me
From the motherland
Apricot stone

Now I see the northern stars
Shining brightly in the storm
And I’ve got an avatar
Of my love to keep me warm
Now I’m not afraid of violent winds
They may blow
They can’t win

May the winter stay away
From my harvest night and day
May God bless and keep my cherished fruit
Grow my tree up to the sky,
Once I waved my home goodbye
I just wanna go back to my roots

Apricot stone,
Hidden in my hand
Given back to me
From the motherland
Apricot stone,
I will drop it down
In the frozen ground
I’ll just let it make its round

Apricot stone,
Hidden in my hand (Hidden in my hand)
Given back to me (Given, given back to me )
From the motherland
Apricot stone
Hidden in my hand
Given back to me
From the motherland

Apricot stone

  1. I understand this song is about growing up, and it’s basically her growing up and the circle of life illustrated by the apricot tree. And of course apricots are planted in early spring, when it’s still cold, and the frosts often kill blooming flowers. So I believe that’s an important part–one must grow to be independent, because in the end their life is their own, and they must fight and stand tall against the cold winds.

So I wondered if there was any reason besides planting time why apricots were the subject. And apparently in Armenia apricots are deeply rooted in their culture (as a disclaimer, I’ve never been to Armenia, just read about it).

I really love this song. It’s absolutely beautiful, and the lyrics are wonderfully deep, unlike so many songs where you can just listen and understand the first time.

  2. I love this song the lyrics are so lovely it just amazing and EVA looked amazing and i just love her <3

  3. beatiful song, the most attractive thing that attened my attation was her hair. it is really beatiful.

  4. She is so beautiful and song is wonderful. She deserves all congragulations and compliments

  5. A beautiful song about life cicle. Every tree begins with a little seed and because she’s afraid to live and has to leave her homeland she lets the tree live there for her. I really live in a country with frozen ground (Finland) and it would really make mee happy to be able to grow apricot 🙂

  6. Outstanding song, lovely singer, amazing woman. I really love this song and I listen to it often. It was my favourite. All the best, Eva

  7. Stupid lyrics… don’t make any sense but the melody is nice, I could go with that. She’s gorgeous too

  8. Lyrics are unforgetible, soo beautiful, I love this song, I am Slovak, but you go Eva, and the other post that Eva is not beautiful woman, you guys are sooo jeoleoss!! Eva looks like Angelina Jolee…she is beautiful and an amazing singer! 🙂
