Portuguese national final for Eurovision Song Contest, Festival da Canção 2008, was held last night (9th March) with the following songs competing:

1. Marco Machado – Em Água e Sal
2. Carluz Belo – Cavaleiro da Manhã
3. Big Hit – Por ti Portugal
4. Lisboa não sejas francesa – Porto de Encontro
5. Vânia Fernandes – Senhora do Mar
6. Vanessa – Do outro lado da vida
7. Ricardo Soler – Canção Pop
8. Alex Smith – Obrigatório ter
9. Tucha – O poder da mensagem
20. Bla Bla Bla – Magicantasticamente

Vânia Fernandes, the winner of the last edition of the talent show Operação Triunfo, won the most votes and will, therefore, be representing Portugal at ESC 2008 in Belgrade.
The winning song is a ballad with mandoline and other string instruments sound and Vania is backed up by five men that give the song a strong chorus.
