Moj deda već dugo
ore nebeske njive,
ali baka još čuva sve stvari
i sliku našeg sveca.
Na dan kad sam rođen
tu je posađen orah.
I u avliji pod gustom krošnjom
sad igraju se deca
Neki novi klinci, neki novi klinci
neki novi klinci
Kroz maglu treperi
devet sveća na torti.
Tad sam dobio par mandarina
i malog, belog zeca.
Umaju još uvek
zriju komšijske bašte
Ali trešnje i zelene kajsije
kradu druga deca
Neki novi klinci, neki novi klinci
neki novi klinci
Moj drugar Milutin,
druga klupa do vrata,
ima klinca od četiri i po
i uči ga da peca.
Ponekad ga sretnem,
mahne kroz prozor kola,
al’ u porti za loptom sad jurcaju
neka druga deca
Neki novi klinci, neki novi klinci
neki novi klinci
A ja, ja se kockam
s prevarantom životom.
Iz rukava, on svakoga dana
izvuče nekog keca.
I stariji mi kažu:
“Sad si u pravom dobu”
A u ulici Jovana Cvijića
rastu druga deca
Neki novi klinci, neki novi klinci
neki novi klinci
English Translation
Some New Kids
My grandpa has for a long time
been plowing fields of heaven
but grandma still keeps all of his stuff
and a picture of our saint
on the day I was born
here was planted a nut
and in the courtyard under the dense shade of the trees
now the kids are playing
Some new kids, some new kids
some new kids
Through the fog
the nine candles are flickering on a cake
than I got a few mandarines
and a small, white rabbit
in may the neighbours
gardens are still ripening
but other kids are stealing
cherries and unripe appricots
Some new kids, some new kids
some new kids
My buddy Milutin
second school desk from the door
he has a kid that’s four and a half years old
and is teaching him how to fish
sometimes I meet him
he waves from his car
but now in the churchyard with a ball are running
are some other kids
Some new kids, some new kids
some new kids
And I, I am gambling
with the trickster of life
everyday he is pulling out of
his sleeve an ace card
and the old people tell me
“This is your time”
but in the street of Jovana Cvijića
other kids are growing up
Some new kids, some new kids
some new kids
Orah is walnut, specifically the walnut tree in this case.
Sorry, this song was a little hard to translate 😆 xD Can you put it back in edit so I can fix the mistakes? 🙂
His grandpa is not digging, he is plowing
big heaven fields sounds quite wrong, think about it.. maybe fields of heaven
The candles are flickering (you’ve left out „trepere“)
Whoever wrote the Serbian lyrics was too lazy and didn’t pay attention to the need for commas, stops, new sentences, I’ve changed that now and it may also influence the translation.
Why do you think that zelene kajsije are green nectarines? They are, in fact, unripe appricots (Djole surely didn’t have nectarines in his yard).
„he waves his hand (at me) behind the car’s window“ Can’t he just wave from his car?
al’ u porti za loptom sad jurcaju
neka druga deca – > the emphasis is on some other kids (but now in the churchyard, some other kids are….
fraud of life.. also needs rethinking. . He is calling the life a trickster, fraud. See, in the next line, „he is pulling something out of his sleeve“. When you say „fraud of life“, who is the HE?
“Sad si u pravom dobu”, in my opinion, is something like „This is your time“
